Apple released (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006/oct/18results.html) preliminary fourth quarter 2006 financial results today. These results may be subject to significant adjustments.
Apple posted revenue of $4.84 billion with a net quarterly profit of $546 million, or $.62 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $3.68 billion and net profit of $430 million, or $.50 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 29.2 percent, up from 28.1 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 40 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
1,610,000 Macs and 8,729,000 iPods were shipped this quarter representing a 30 percent growth in Macs and 35 percent growth in iPods over the year-ago quarter.
“This strong quarter caps an extraordinary year for Apple. Selling more than 39 million iPods and 5.3 million Macs while performing an incredibly complex architecture transition is something we are all very proud of,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Looking forward, 2007 is likely to be one of the most exciting new product years in Apple’s history.”
“We are pleased to have finished the year with over $10 billion in cash and to have increased annual revenue by $11 billion in the last two years,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the first fiscal quarter of we expect revenue of $6.0 to $6.2 billion and earnings per diluted share of $.70 to $.73.”

What was an 11 year old doing that required this app? I bet pressed download just for the thrill of it and when it started downloading he freaked out.
Yet another reason (of many) that kids should not be given expensive electronics to play with. I blame the parents for giving the kid an iPod touch in the first place. I am perfectly satisfied with my $29 MP3 player that I bought on sale last month.

Nope, I've never enabled them before on my iPad as I'm not an official Apple developer and I didn't have access to the beta release that included this feature in the past.
Interesting.
I can't confirm this because I already had Gestures enabled once and with every new update, it hasn't gone away. But if they are now enabled without needing XCode, then I guess enjoy because I love using these Gestures (I rarely use the Home button anymore).

There's an awful lot of cock-suredness on this board.
If MS releases this player, which will have full wireless integration with the msTunes Music Store through your home PC with WMA10 or your XBOX360 some people could be persuaded to get it. The end-to-end process in a major part of the iPod experience, and this is MS's plan to get in on it.
Would I get one? No, because I have an Apple computer - but 90% of the world still runs windows, and now they won't have to install third party software or worry about integration issues. Their new PC (or old with new and improved WMA10) will connect right up and automatically fill up their new, media device - all without wires!
Give MS the benefit of the doubt here. If you dismiss them, you run the risk of falling prey to their marketing/sales/monopoly-position machine.

I am just too conservative for that. Two porn stars and a suitcase full of viagra would be enough...oh, ok, three, but forget the $30k, that would never happen.
BTW, There must be some product placement game going on. The last show featured Pacifico beer and they started out with the labels clearly shown, just all perfectly aligned, and later in the show they were turned around exactly 180 and although everyone was drinking it, their hands carefully covered the labels.
There must be people who follow this. Maybe Pacifico stopped making payments or something half way thru the production of the show...?

iAdware is an ugly development to-be-sure, but not a big an scary one. As most Mac users know, proof of concept is not the same as actually having this kind of thing happen in the wild.
Still, Apple should take this seriously and anticipate similar developments in the coming months. If something like this does take off, it'll likely be through spoofing type sites and so on. For now I'm not going to loose any sleep over this and trust that Apple, as it angles itself-towards dominance in the marketplace, won't make the same blunders MS did with their buggy OS.
Apple knows that MS has them in their sights and any slip would be exploited. You can just see them shouting from the rooftops, "My Gawd, Apple has viruses, malware and adware!" as if that paralleled the umpteen thousands of virus developed to exploit their own sub-par software.
I suspect it's being looked into now by Apple's security team with an update to emerge long before this pup is found in the wild.

I think Apple's response to this, in both its speed and thoroughness will give us some real hard data to go on as far as OSX's security.
Because of increasing users, and the much-maligned Mac user smugness, you can rest assured that there will be an onslaught every step of the way for Apple from here on out. They need to respond quickly, and completely, with no mercy.
